BCR Datasets - Release Date 31st December 2007

 Important announcement 22nd January 2008:

Please return all data using the following secure e-mail address: sarahfowler2@nhs.net

Launch of Dataset for minimally-invasive technologies in the treatment of primary and salvage prostate cancer patients - 12th November 2008

In response to the recent NICE guidelines on Prostate Cancer, the section of Oncology has produced a complex operations database for minimally-invasive technologies in the treatment of primary and salvage prostate cancer patients. Following consultations on the recommendation that minimally-invasive technologies and in particular Cryosurgery should only be undertaken as part of a formal study or clinical trial, it was agreed that submission of data on all cases undertaken to a complex operations database would satisfy the requirements of the guidelines. The BAUS section of Oncology, having previously pioneered a complex operations database, was agreed as the appropriate site of the new database. It has been agreed by NICE that  “If surgeons are recruiting patients into a trial or collecting registry data that will be available for comparative assessment then this should be considered in accordance with the NICE guidance”. The minimally invasive treatment dataset has been sent to NICE and we await final approval.

Data collection will commence using the paper proformas that can be downloaded below or in electronic format conforming to the downloadable specification and will transfer to the web-based database that is currently in development once an adequate assessment period has passed.

BCRplus Version 2008.0 - Release Date 30th January 2008

A minor modification has been made to the database to allow specification of directory to which you would like to export complex operation data for own analyses (as well as when sending data to BAUS (the latter was released in 2006)). This defaults to c:  You should just change it to where you want e.g. F: (if it is just to go to an F drive) or G:\baus (say if you wanted it to go to a baus subdirectory in the G drive). If you haven’t recently upgraded your program then you should download the latest version.

In order to simplify programming the only version released is for Access 2000 users and above. If you are still using Access 97 and your IT department are unable to upgrade your pc to a more recent version of Microsoft Access please e-mail me directly for help. (sarah@sarahfowler.org )

(You can find out which version of Access you have by using the About option on the Help menu).

Upgrade Installation (2000BCRPlus.zip):

To install the upgrade simply download the file and unzip the three files (BCRplus.mdb, InstallationInstructionsBCRupgrade.doc and BCRplus overview.doc (the latest copy of the manual)) so that they overwrite your existing files. This procedure will NOT affect your existing data since this is all stored in the Access database BCRdataplus.mdb.

N.B. The first time that you run the program it checks to see if your original installation is in C:\BAUS as recommended. If not you must follow the on screen instructions to locate BCRdataplus.mdb and the program will then update the links accordingly.

Full program installation (2000BCRPlus.zip) - (ONLY necessary if you have never used the program to collect your data before or did not upgrade in 2004 from BCR to BCRPlus. Doing so could overwrite all existing data). Please ensure you download the installation instructions before installing this program:
